Same procedure as last year – Chinese New Year is coming!

Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year (CNY) is the most important holiday in China. In 2019, this festive celebration falls on February the 4th to February the 12th.

Since the Chinese New Year is a nationwide celebration, it will affect production. Please contact your local Sales Manager at Elmatica, and start planning ahead already. We will do our very best to support you and reduce the impact of this external factor. We are taking precautions together with our trusted manufacturers in China.

However, there are some proactive factors we encourage all our customers to look into:

  • The lead time might increase with +2 weeks, so prioritizing your PCB orders might be a good idea.
  • Talk to your Elmatica contact, and plan your production before/after CNY.
  • For orders applicable for QTA, Elmatica will help source out suitable manufacturers.

2019, is according to the Chinese Zodiac, the year of the pig.
In Chinese culture, pigs are the symbol of wealth. The Pig is the twelfth of all zodiac animals.
According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived at his party. The pig was late because he overslept. Another story says that a wolf destroyed his house. He had to rebuild his home before he could set off. When he arrived, he was the last one and could only take twelfth place.

About Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is defined to be the first day of the first month in the traditional Chinese calendar. Unlike the Christian New Year, which is based on a solar calendar, the Chinese New Year is based on a traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar whose date indicates both the moon phase and the time of the solar year. A lunar month is around 2 days shorter than a solar month. In order to “catch up” with the solar calendar, an extra month is inserted every few years. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year.
