Competence expansion between Dr. Schneider and Elmatica – Dr. Schneider combines plastics with electronics for the future
Written by: Guro Krossen,
Communication Manager

The Dr. Schneider Unternehmensgruppe is a global automotive supplier headquartered in Kronach-Neuses, Germany, specializing in premium plastic systems for vehicle interiors. The family-owned company expanded its R&D expertise and production line to include electronic components in its products. This forced a need for additional suppliers within the electronics industry, a jungle of options.

“Having partners willing to invest with a long term perspective and no quick earnings, is crucial when establishing a new internal competence. With Elmatica we got this”, says Rainer Dietzel, responsible Senior Manager for the Commodity Electronics at Dr. Schneider.

SMT production for the Automotive Industry
Dr. Schneider stopped in 2019 the outsourcing of SMT production to third parties and expanded the full-service supplier strategy for the Automotive Industry.

This meant adding more sub-suppliers to their production chain, consequently a new supplier base in the electronic industry.

“This was an interesting periode for the company and for me personally. I have over the last 15 years heldt various positions at Dr.Schneider purchasing, now we moved into new territory sourcing for suppliers in a different segment”, says Dietzel.

“Elmatica saw a potential partnership with us, invested time, resources and knowledge over several years. I guess this shows their commitment towards customers”, says Dietzel.

Early involvement is crucial
For Dr. Schneider, a specialist for first-class products for vehicle interiors and a strategic business partner for their customers, transparency and predictability from their suppliers is crucial.

“For us it’s important to have a close relationship with our customers, to fulfill their demands, the same goes for our suppliers. Our customers involve us early in the product development process, we want to do the same with our suppliers.

Early involvement helps us to make the right decisions for saving time and money in our product development and procurement process”, says Dietzel.

Price and quality is very important in the Automotive industry, but according to Mr. Dietzel a close relationship, open discussions and honest feedback is equally important.

“We are humbled by the trust given to us by Dr.Schneider and Mr. Dietzel. Our strength is our knowledge and fifty years experience in the industry. Investing time and resources in a customer is a given, and when the customers are satisfied with the support we provide and we, together, find the best solution for that specific PCB design, then we have succeeded, says Jochen Summ Country Manager Germany.

An important technology driver
“Insight in the production process of a pcb, transparency, how to do layout, design and production gave trust to us to the competence of Elmatica”, says Dietzel.

With its own research and development department, the Dr. Schneider Unternehmensgruppe is one of the most important technology drivers in the automotive supplier market. In addition to decades of experience, this is based on a high level of innovative strength in the complete product creation process – from acquisition and development to series production.

“We have experienced Elmatica as a trusted partner, this is important for us as technology drivers in a challenging market, in particular as of today”,  Dietzel finishes.

In plus of supporting our customers in the Automotive industry with PCB design advice, material choices and compliance, we also Chair the IPC Automotive Standard, the IPC 6012DA.
